The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned that limited access to clean water and sanitation in Gaza is posing a grave risk to children. The UN agency states that displaced people in the southern Gaza Strip are accessing only 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day, well below the recommended requirement for survival. The crisis, antagonised by limited aid deliveries and infrastructure destruction, puts vulnerable children at risk of disease. UNICEF states that 3 litres of water is required daily for survival, and children in Gaza have barely a drop to drink. The lack of hygiene and unsafe water sources is a "dramatic" risk factor for children, who are more vulnerable to waterborne disease, dehydration, and malnutrition.
